Setting Up devolo Magic (Without the Home Network App)

Das Multiroom-Kit des Magic 2 WiFi 6 von devolo.

Step 1: Note the Wi-Fi Key

Take note of the Wi-Fi key from the back of the devolo Magic WiFi adapter.

Step 2: Plug in the devolo Magic WiFi Adapter

Plug one or more devolo Magic WiFi adapters into an available wall socket. The PLC indicator light (on the left) will turn red. Wait until the LED blinks rapidly in white (approximately 1 minute), indicating that the adapter is in pairing mode.

Step 3: Connect the devolo Magic LAN Adapter

Within 2 minutes, plug the devolo Magic LAN adapter into an available wall socket near your internet router and connect it to the router using the included LAN cable.

Step 4: Wait for the Encryption Process

The LEDs on all adapters will now blink white while the encryption process takes place. This process lasts a maximum of 3 minutes and is complete when all device LEDs are lit white continuously.

Step 5: Connect End Devices to devolo

Once the Magic WiFi adapters have successfully connected, the basic setup is complete. You can now establish a Wi-Fi connection between your end devices and the adapters using the key noted earlier, enjoying fast Wi-Fi.

You can also find a user manual with detailed information on initial setup and network configuration in the download section of the Magic product information page.

Your Adapter Is Blinking Red – What to Do?

If a Magic adapter blinks, this can have various meanings. Is your adapter blinking red? Then it's in its delivery state and hasn't been connected to another Magic adapter yet.

If your adapter blinks alternately in red and white, this indicates a low data rate. This can happen, for example, if you are using your adapters in power strips with other devices, which you should try to avoid.

Optional Tips

Closing Remaining Wi-Fi gaps

If you still notice areas with weak Wi-Fi coverage after successfully installing devolo Magic, you can expand your Powerline network afterward – it's easy and flexible. You can do this by using our handy extension adapters.

Setting Up a Mesh Network

If you want to connect your Magic adapters and router into a unified mesh network with a single login, you'll need to follow additional steps, which are outlined below.

Step 1: Place the Adapter Near the Router

Plug your Magic WiFi adapter into an available wall socket located within a maximum of 10 meters from the router. Wait for about 1 minute until the PLC indicator light (on the left) turns white.

Step 2: Transfer Wi-Fi Access Data

Press the PLC button (on the left) on your adapter, causing the LED to blink white. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router (the required duration of the button press depends on the router model).

Step 3: Place the Adapter at Your Desired Location

Once the LED on the Magic WiFi adapter is continuously lit white again, the router's Wi-Fi access data has been transferred to the adapter. You can now unplug it and place it at your desired location.

Setting Up devolo Repeater (Without the Home Network App)

Using the Add Button (WPS)

Step 1: Plug in the Repeater

Plug the WiFi Repeater into an outlet near your router. Once the dot of the Wi-Fi LED turns green, the device is ready for operation. This state is achieved within up to 2 minutes after plugging it in.

Step 2: Activate WPS

Press the Add button on your Repeater for approximately 1 to 3 seconds. Next, within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your Wi-Fi router, or alternatively, activate the WPS function on the configuration interface/app of your device.

Step 3 (optional): Reposition the Repeater

If both the dot and the arcs on the Wi-Fi symbol on the device light up in green, it has been successfully configured as a repeater. If necessary, you can unplug it and place it in a different location in your living space.

Using the Web Interface

Current devolo Repeaters set up a temporary Wi-Fi network (without an internet connection) – this network may be named, for example, "devolo WiFi 6 Repeater 5400." Connect your device to this network; no password is required. In your web browser, go to the address "http://2.2.2.1." Here, you can choose whether you want to use the device as a Repeater or an Access Point.

Configuration as a Repeater

Click on "Set up as a Repeater". From the list of available Wi-Fi networks, select your home network name and enter your password. You can now make Wi-Fi settings. We recommend using the default configuration.

Configuration as an Access Point

Connect the devolo Repeater to a free LAN port on your router using an Ethernet cable. In the web interface, click on "Set up as an Access Point". To have the device match the same Wi-Fi configuration as your router, you can use the Wi-Fi Clone function to copy its access data. This can be done through the web interface or by pressing the Add button on the repeater for 3 to 9 seconds and then pressing the WPS button on the router.

You can also find a user manual with detailed information on initial setup and network configuration in the download section of the Repeater product information page.
